Meekness

Numbers  12:2 And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.  12:3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)

Understanding the context of the scriptural passage, Miriam and Aaron, Moses’ siblings, questioned his unique role as God’s spokesperson. They challenged his authority, hinting at their own significance in God’s plan.

In response, the scripture highlights Moses’ extraordinary humility, describing him as more humble than anyone else on earth. This sets the stage for us to explore the true nature of meekness.

Meekness, as illustrated in the Bible, is not weakness. It’s a strength under control, characterized by humility, patience, and a gentle spirit.

Moses, despite his significant position, did not retaliate against Miriam and Aaron’s challenge. Instead, he remained calm, trusting God to defend his cause. He was faced numerous challenges and opposition, not only from external enemies but also from his own people. Yet, he consistently exhibited patience and a gentle spirit.

His meekness was rooted in his deep relationship with God. Moses understood that true leadership and strength come from reliance on God’s guidance and not from asserting his own power.

Also, Jesus, our ultimate example, described Himself as “gentle and humble in heart” (Matthew 11:29). He embodied meekness, showing compassion, and patience even in the face of suffering and injustice. On the cross, Jesus displayed the pinnacle of meekness, choosing forgiveness over retaliation, and love over hate.

Applying Meekness in Our Lives.

In our daily interactions, we are called to embody meekness, reflecting Christ’s character. This involves listening more than speaking, showing patience, and extending grace to others.

Meekness is also about trusting God’s timing and plan, even when we face opposition or challenges. It’s about finding our strength in Him and not in our own abilities.

In conclusion, let us strive to be like Moses and Jesus, who exemplified true meekness. In doing so, we reveal the strength and beauty of a life surrendered to God, marked by humility, patience, and a gentle spirit.

God bless you.
