God’s Safety

Psalms  91:4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.  91:5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;  91:6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.  91:7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

Our sovereign God is the only source of true safety. God covering us with His feathers and providing refuge under His wings is deeply comforting. It evokes the picture of a mother bird shielding her young, ensuring their safety from predators and the elements.

This is a truth about the character of God. He is our refuge, our safe place. When we feel vulnerable or threatened, we can find solace under His protective wings. This refuge is not merely physical but also spiritual and emotional, offering peace that surpasses all understanding.

His Faithfulness as Our Shield and buckler
“his truth shall be thy shield and buckler”

God’s faithfulness is like a shield and a rampart—a strong and impenetrable defense against the attacks of the enemy. A shield guards us in battle, protecting us from the arrows of fear, doubt, and despair.

A buckler is a defensive wall, fortifying us against sustained attacks. God’s faithfulness is our defense mechanism. He is always reliable, always true to His promises. No matter what we face, we can trust that God will remain steadfast in His commitment to protect and uphold us.

His safety guarantees our Freedom from Fear: Day and Night

*”You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day.”*

Fear is one of the most debilitating emotions we can experience. It paralyzes us and prevents us from living fully. But the psalmist assures us that we do not need to fear the terror of night or the arrow that flies by day.

Whether it’s the unseen dangers that lurk in the dark or the visible threats that come in broad daylight, God’s protection covers us around the clock. We can sleep peacefully, knowing that God is watching over us. We can go about our daily activities without anxiety, confident in His safeguarding presence.

He gives Protection from Hidden and Overt Dangers

“Nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.”

In our day today, pestilence or plague can include anything from unseen illnesses and dangers to more apparent challenges and crises. God’s promise is to guard us against all forms of harm, both seen and unseen.

The Assurance of God’s Sovereignty

*”A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.”*

Even when chaos and destruction are all around us, God’s hand shields us. The imagery here is striking—a battlefield where thousands fall, yet those who trust in God remain untouched. It is a powerful reminder that God is in control, even when circumstances seem dire. His protective power is beyond human comprehension.

In conclusion, let us hold firmly to the assurance that God is our ultimate protector. He covers us with His feathers, shields us with His faithfulness, and frees us from fear. His protection is all-encompassing, guarding us from both hidden and obvious dangers. In times of trouble, let us remember that God’s sovereignty ensures our safety. We are secure in His love and grace.

God bless you.
