Abundance and Wealth

Genesis  26:12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.  26:13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:

In Genesis, we see an  example of God’s abundant blessings through the life of Isaac. Despite the famine that affected the land, Isaac obeyed God’s command and stayed in Gerar. His obedience led to God’s favor, resulting in a miraculous harvest—a hundredfold return in the same year. This passage highlights several key aspects:

1. Obedience and Faith: Isaac’s decision to sow seeds during a time of famine was an act of faith. It illustrates that God’s blessings often require us to step out in faith, trusting in His provision even when circumstances seem dire.

2. God’s Sovereign Blessing: The increase Isaac experienced was not due to his farming skills but because “the Lord blessed him.” This underscores that true wealth and abundance come from God’s hand. Our efforts are important, but it is God’s blessing that multiplies our labor.

3. Growing Wealth: Isaac’s wealth was not static; it continued to grow. This growth is a testament to God’s ongoing provision and a reminder that His blessings are not a one-time event but a continuous flow in our lives when we walk in obedience and faith.

Joel  2:24 And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with wine and oil.  2:25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.  2:26 And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.

In Joel, we encounter a prophetic promise of restoration and abundance following a period of devastation. In this passage God promises:

1. Overflowing Provision: The imagery of threshing floors filled with grain and vats overflowing with new wine and oil represents God’s provision in its fullness. It is a picture of surplus, where God’s blessings exceed our needs.

2. Restoration of Lost Years: God promises to repay the years that the locusts have eaten. This signifies that no loss is permanent when we are in God’s hands. He can restore time, opportunities, and resources that we thought were irretrievably lost.

3. Plenty and Praise: The promise culminates in a scene where God’s people have plenty to eat and are filled to satisfaction. This abundance leads to praise and recognition of God’s wonders. It shows that God’s provision not only meets our physical needs but also brings us to a place of worship and gratitude.

Application for our life Today
What do these passages mean for us today?

1. Trust in God’s Provision: In times of scarcity or uncertainty, we must remember Isaac’s example and trust in God’s ability to provide. Whether in our personal lives or as a community, our faith in God’s promises will lead to His blessings.

2. Active Obedience: Like Isaac, we are called to act in faith. This might mean investing our time, resources, or talents in areas where we feel led by God, even if it seems risky. Our obedience sets the stage for God’s miracles.

3. Hope for Restoration: Joel’s prophecy offers hope that God can restore what has been lost. Whether it’s lost years, missed opportunities, or diminished resources, God’s promise is to bring about restoration and abundance.

4. Gratitude and Praise: Abundance is not just about wealth; it’s about recognizing God’s hand in our lives and responding with gratitude and praise. As we acknowledge His provision, we honor Him and inspire others to trust in His goodness.

In conclusion, In both Genesis and Joel, we see a powerful demonstration of God’s ability and desire to bless His people abundantly. As we trust in His provision, act in faith, and remain obedient to His word, we can expect to experience His overflow in our lives. Let us hold fast to these promises, knowing that God is faithful to bring about abundance and wealth, not just for our benefit, but for His glory and the advancement of His kingdom.

God bless you.
